Course Description:  The course begins with general information about dam safety including a video about a dam failure in the Cariboo which had a significant impact on the Dam Safety Program in BC. Following that there is an overview of the BC Dam Safety Regulation and the Dam Safety Compliance Program.  The remainder of the course includes: organizing and preparing for a dam safety inspection, visual evaluation of dam condition and identification of visual deficiencies, evaluation of seepage conditions, assessment of spillways and outlets, basic hydraulic and hydrologic adequacy, failure modes and inspection and testing of gates, valves, and other mechanical systems.  A field trip to a local dam is scheduled in the early afternoon.    Map to Dam Site will be posted shortly.
